Agri-food and fishing exports reached the record figure of 68,018 million in 2022

Agri-food and fishing exports experienced an increase of 13.1 % in 2022 compared to the previous year and reached the record figure of 68,018 million euros.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has had significant effects on the European and world economy, aggravated in the agri-food sector as they are two large global producers.

In the current scenario, characterized by high international prices of products, in the Spanish economy as a whole, exports increased by 23.6% compared to 2021.

In this context, the trade balance (exports minus imports) of the total economy decreased by 116.7 % compared to 2021, and that of the agri-food and fishing sector decreased by 26 %, and stood at 13,869 million euros, motivated by the notable increase in the value of imports.

A faithful reflection of the important role played by the agri-food and fishing sector in Spanish foreign trade is that its exports accounted for 17.5% of those of the economy as a whole, and its imports accounted for 11.8%.
